Texting Out the Vote

The first response I get just says “Trump will win.”

As a volunteer with the Natural Resources Defense Council Action Fund, I’m texting from a public list of registered voters in Colorado in an attempt to mobilize as many pro-climate constituents as possible. According to the NRDC, research shows that people who vote in the primaries are more likely to vote in the general election, which is when we will need a full-court press in order to defeat He Who Shall Not Be Named. Hence the NRDC’s campaign.

The Clock is Ticking Still

In early 1994 I found myself writing about the idea of the “creativity clock.” I had borrowed the idea from the infamous biological clock, but rather than counting the days until I could no longer procreate, my creativity clock counted the days until I could no longer contribute significantly to the world. Obviously, the timeline for the latter was—and is—way more forgiving and the options much more plentiful. The idea was a comfort to me as I considered whether or not I wanted children.

How Survivor has Outwitted, Outplayed & Outlasted Them All

It’s hard to believe that TV’s Survivor, which first aired in America in 2000, is still going strong almost two decades later. I’m not immune to reality television’s essential appeal—I love Antiques Roadshow and used to wait breathlessly every summer for the new season of So You Think You Can Dance to start—but even still it’s hard to account for Survivor’s longevity.
